The Privilege of Living and Working with Beautiful Animals

All the power and beauty of the dressage horse – success is always achieved with so much hard work and behind the scenes support.
So it is also with the making of a celebration bronze like the Dressage Horse Portrait head ‘Virtu’

Thanks to the help of his rider Emile Faurie and all at his stable I was able to capture the likeness of this lovely Dutch Warmblood horse. This took many hours of gradually adding fragments of clay to build up the likeness of such a special equine. With Emile’s help I was able to see Virtu working – hurtling past me at the extended trot – Marvellous.
Since that time that sculpture has become a trophy for many events.

People have also bought the portrait sculpture for a gift that endures that has been given to acknowledge, thank and encourage special people.
More waxes have been made ready to cast into Bronze via the lost wax method. This involves the skills and hard work of all those at the Birmingham foundry.
From these we are going to make some particularly unusual to celebrate the Dressage Horse with a lovely Grey patina to the bronze.
I am so glad this limited Edition Sculpture is providing such pleasure for so many people.
Each year I am able to make several portrait sculptures and anyone who would like to commission such a piece is very welcome to contact me at the Tenon Studio for a chat or send an e mail with more about your own ideas for a sculpture or statue.
