Swift from Eye to Hand

Response and Action in the Face of Hard View

Red Warnings & Swift Bronze in the Artists Hand

I look

and want to weep at such rapid decline

But through the tears and distractions

Make something good

Happen

Because making a difference

is

Just

that

And together we can…

This is the Look on a graph of the fall in the numbers of Swifts (Apus apus) measured in the British Isles – what I have seen

Organisations such as the RSPB  are encouraging how we  can make a difference for this and other birds, animals and their environments

If you search online you can find many local groups taking actions and making a difference and there are marvelous sites like Swift Conservation  and Action for Swifts dedicated to keeping us informed as to the ways we can put up nest boxes, encourage local buildings to be built with nest bricks and spaces for Swifts and bats.

Like a High Noon in the moment of history we have opportunity to find out and make a local difference.

Every conversation to see change and every action to make change for the better is the beginnings of being the difference to turn back catastrophe and set examples that with such care and attention we can make a difference where it is so needed.

Let’s keep the sight and sound of Swifts Flying through our Summer Skies and gain encouragement – that since we can make a difference for this bird species – we can make a difference for many and much more

What has this to do with creativity and my work as an artist?

I am building a response to bring together this need and this story in a visual form – to change what I have seen and heard about such a tragedy into something that will itself tell the story and provoke action to benefit other species, generations and us all – This is to be

NooN > Swift in My Hand

What are the components in this story?

  • The tatty, threads unraveling, a print out of the rapid decline of this species
  • That which we should hold dear – the Swift
  • The support – Actual roof tile reclaimed
  • My hand – in this case this artists own hand  – but a poor attempt at a cast incomplete & flawed and coming undone – yet >>

Existing in action to make a difference

  • No  or On ? the Palindrome of NooN – will we take something onwards or just be the no – and fail to see what is needed and respond in some ways until we too make some positive difference to the cataclysmic change.

I am putting this together to aim to make a difference and inspire others to take one and many small actions, small steps in the journey to see the change we want and need in the appreciation and protection of this world.
