The Beautiful Summer Wings

The latest bronze bird sculptures from the Sculptress JOEL

Here a preview of key species for the Exhibition this summer where these and other sculptures will celebrate our birds and promote nature conservation.

You can reserve one of these bird sculptures, even take delivery in days.

Our favourite summer birds – that swoop across our summer skies and herald the season – Swift, Swallow, House Martin and Sand Martin.

Here the first photo session of the latest in the Sickle Wing Bird Collection  and the Number One of the House Martin Bronzes from JOEL.

Number One House Martin

The House Martin has been given its signifying blue tones of the body and tail and the white rump of this lovely bird.

If you prefer the House Martin in classic bronze without colour contact the Tenon Studio and order your own casting.

Here the smaller brown Sand Martin as a pair – one in flight and its pair landing.

You can see the way the landing bird has spread its tail feathers to brake the speed and balance against the sandy wall.

Above the torpedo shape of the bird in flight is also seen.

Below is the Classic Sickle Wing Bird – the Swift – set against the sky and the young Swift just ready to take wing. The Swift has the largest wingspan of the four species in this collection. This amazing bird can reach speeds of  111.6km/h (69.3mph) flying horizontally and even upwards and is famous for only landing to breed – the wings being too long for take off from the ground.

Swift & Young

The Swift bronze wings above are gleaming in the sunshine  – below the classic bronze photographed  on a more cloudy day shows that classic Bronze is so suitable for this bird’s colour.

Close up of the young Swift’s wings – showing them spread as he exercises ready for flight. The details of the forms of the feathers different to the Martins and look at the characteristic shape and curve to the primary feathers.

A hint of the pale chin as the young swift is captured stretching up. You can see the shape of the feathers that protect the eye and the neat broad based beak.

For another touch of colour we have a pair of Bronze Swallows flying over a pillar of Cumberland slate. You can see one Swallow has the wings swept further back and the tail closed for fast flight.

“I love the forms of these birds in flight – and how the bronzes are set off against the specially selected stone base. Stone and bronze look so different in different weather conditions too,” JOEL

Again if you prefer your bronze without the Rutland Bronze Colours of the species, you can order your own classic bronze finish.
