I am so excited to be putting all I have learned with the Milo project into action with this latest sculpture portrait of a very special dog called Millie.

And off and running
The details and sizes of Millie studied, materials gathered and the armature is made.
You can get the first indications of the topline of the rear view
Then the first clay and next the long process to work towards the top line and the other profiles.
Filling up the body shape

Moving up the neck and sketching in the head
The first layer of clay is added to the leg wire
all needs to settle in
Looking strange – but we have come a long way.
What a difference – the ears on and the eyes sketched in, legs and paws being built up

On to the details and the beginnings of all that lovely coat and character

Starting the long process in the addition of the hair details and character
Now the long process to finish her form and add her coat

The Check by the Subject
and last work on hair details and a bit of weight increase!! and more hair detail… then off to the mould maker
Can you see she is more her mature curvacious self!
And the marvellous Millie hair above the eyes
The runny rubber is added to go into all the crannies and crevices and slowly built up. Once all the layer are in place and decisions made for the splits and design – the backing shell will be built up.
Then it is off to the casting process and a special founders wax will be poured into the cleaned mould and Sculptress visits to check the wax and add any last fine details
Then the long process of lost wax casting and finishing…
